task one notes

Task one.

Raster:
-          Made up of parallel lines of a pattern to form an image or a display or television.

-          Electronics: horizontal scanning lines traced by an electron beam.

-           JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP, TIFF, PSD*

-          Coloured pixels

In use:
-          Nearly all the images on websites are raster images. They are typically digital

Basic file types:
-          .jpg (JPEG raster format), .gif (GIF transparent file), .png (Portable Network Graphic Transparent file), .tiff or .tif (Tag Interleave Format).

-          Adobe Photoshop: .psd

Vector:
-          uses points, lines, curves, and shapes or polygons
-          more flexibility
-          objects
-          individual objects
-          don’t lose quality when resized
-          .svg
-          Common formats: .cgm, .svg, .odg, .eps, .xml
-
Basic file types:
  • Adobe Illustrator: .ai, .ait, .art
  • Corel Draw: .cdr, .cdrw, .cdt
  • Corel: pat (Paint Shop Pro Pattern Image)
  • Digital Line Graph: .dlg, .do
  • OpenOffice: .odg
-          drw (vector file), .pif (vector image GDF format), .pct (Macintosh bitmap graphics format) , .ps (Adobe PostScript), .eps (Encapsulated PostScript), .svf (Simple Vector Format).
Pros and cons of vectors:
-          Vector images are scalable, so that the same image can be designed once and resized infinitely for any size application – from business card to billboard.
-          Vector images cannot display the natural qualities of photographs.
-          Vector images cannot as of this writing be used in electronic format – they must be converted to a raster first.
-          Vectors display at the highest resolution allowed by the output device, while rasters blur when blown up.

Vector-based applications:
·         Adobe illustrator is the industry leader in vector drawing applications.
·         CorelDraw is another popular vector drawing application.
·         Adobe Freehand is used for creating vector graphics.
·         Adobe Fireworks - see Bitmap graphics software applications section above.
Other vector drawing applications include:
·    Adobe Flash - see animation applications
·    KAI power tools
·    Jasc Web Draw
·    Logo Ease- web based software
·         The Flame project - Open source software used to create SVG files

Raster based-applications:
·
Raster images are primarily used with photos, which is why Photoshop is a raster editing program. Adobe Illustrator, on the other hand, is a vector drawing program that automatically creates your vector formulas as you draw.
·         raster images are resolution dependent.
·         When you change the size of a raster image, you shrink or stretch the pixels themselves which can result in a significant loss of clarity and very blurry image.

logo designs part 2

different logo designs made in photoshop

paper designs

the making of 'bellissimo'

My logo is basically a simple font and was really easy to make in photoshop. I was try8ing to recreate the first one as I couldn’t take it apart.
I started off with a simple font ‘minion pro’ and the font size as 61.33pt. I made it in capital letters so it was able to stand out with the black colouring.

I then changed the font size to 60pt for a better size and I changed the tallness of the letters and I also changed the spacing to give it a bit of an effect. Here I duplicated the word, and changed the font colour from black to white.

Then I selected my word, went to effects, when to blur and then blur motion so it the word would be blurry.

Then I simply brought the black one in front of the white one and slightly shifted the white one to the right as if it would create a little shadow behind. It was also a way of making the logo stand out more with a white outline of sorts, which is why the background had been changed to grey so it could be seen properly.

logo audience

I am designing a logo for a clothing company called ‘Bellissimo’.  I want the logo of the company to be elegant as the meaning of the brand means ‘beautiful’. The reasoning behind the Italian name is because I want the clothing brand to be very feminine and I would also like it to be a powerful brand for women. The logo will be a print version as it is going onto clothing, which will be made in photoshop. My audience is obviously women, as it is a clothing brand/product for them. The audience isn’t really aimed at a particular female type but it can apply to any as I want the brand to make them feel beautiful and elegant.

digital graphics with print

Digital graphics with print.

1.       Semiotics: anchorage – anchors meaning with the text
Denotation – actual meaning, what you see. – signified
Connotations – the hidden meaning, what it represents, concepts, what the messages are. – Signifier.
2.       FedEx – delivery. Colour – purple (royal) and orange
Deno – recognise its, global, institution, formal

3.       Baskin Robbins – ‘31’ in the logo for 31 different flavours
4.       Amazon – arrow from a to z, any product, arrow acts as a smile.
Choose 4 logos / graphics.
1.       Discuss semiotics and explain
2.       Analyse of text, colour, image, layout
3.       Identify and explain target audience through your analysis and how it appeals

.

The Apple logo is very basic, there is no text at all as the logo actually speaks for itself. What you see is a form of an apple with a chunk taken out of it, to showcase that it is an apple. The apple logo represents its products such as the iPhone, the iPad, the apple watch, ect.
The Apple logo is derived from the story of Adam and Eve in the Bible. The bitten apple represents the fruit from the “Tree of Knowledge”.

The Barbie logo is very girly and you can tell that with the style of writing that they have chosen to use, it’s as if a female has wrote it herself by the way the letters curl and join up. The actual meaning of the logo is to show the elegance of all females.
Pink is a color that feels soft, gentle, sweet, young, feminine and optimist. Which has an elegant, playful and traditional look and feel to it. The image itself is a head of a female with girly features such as the long eyelashes and the way her hair is laid out

The twitter logo is very basic in terms of how they have shown to presented it with a ‘bird’. There was no longer a need for text as the bird represents itself, as soon as you see the bird, you know its twitter. The new bird represents the limitless possibilities and freedom of tweeting.
The new bird represents the limitless possibilities and freedom of tweeting which ties in with the fact that it’s a bird. The layout of the logo is very simple as there isn’t any more text with the image. However the image is straight but the bird is slanted upwards with its wing/s up, intentionally showing the freedom.  Also the bird ties in with the fact that people ‘tweet’ on twitter and that’s what initially the bird does.

The Adidas logo is designed to influence the masses with its simplicity and elegance.
The three stripes, which was part of the original logo in 1967, never really meant anything. It was just supposed to be unique. In the '90s, though, they slanted the stripes so that it would represent a mountain, which stands for the obstacles people need to overcome.

The font of the Adidas logo is simple yet effective. Despite its simplicity, it does not fail to impress. Adidas is still engaged in motivating and energizing the youth of every nation and stands proudly as one of the best companies of the world. The purpose behind the color of the logo being black is not a mere coincidence; its motif is to motivate the youth to engage themselves in athletics and to encourage the ones who are striving to be athletes.
