different formats.

This is my final piece of my logo design which is being saved a JPEG, making it easier to upload. I have developed a few obstacles in the making of my logo, as my logo is a print design.
There were a few advantages and disadvantages of saving my logo in different formats.

My logo was saved as a JPEG. The reason for this is because it makes it easier for me to upload this onto different websites for people to see, such as Facebook, my blogger, twitter and other websites. The advantages of saving my work as a JPEG is because it can be saved as any file size and it is compatible to any website. Another reason for having as a JPEG is that it will save anything to a still image.
The disadvantages of having an image as a JPEG such as mine, is that it can compress the image so you can’t go back and make any changes to it. Saving it as a JPEG can also degrade the quality every time it’s downloaded or copied and pasted somewhere else.

Here my logo is being saved as a TIFF. Saving it as a TIFF makes it so much better for print work flows. TIFF is a good way of saving an image as it doesn’t compress the image as it retains the maximum amount of data from the camera. It can be compressed to reduce file sizes using mathematical algorithms such as ZIP or TAR without loss of image data.

The downside to it is that most websites and online image galleries do not support TIFF loading.  Slow speeds when transferring to online galleries that do support TIFF files.

consideration of audience.

I have chosen a similar brand to mine ‘Lipsy Limited’ also known as ‘Lipsy London’ who also has a similar market and target audience to mine. Lipsy is a UK women’s fashion brand which has an audience based on/for women aged 16-30 year olds. They address their audience through design and appeal by how they have designed their logo by using their style of clothing in a sense. Such as because their clothing is girly but elegant they’ve used that and reflected it into their logo. You can see the girly side in their logo by the ‘L’ and the heart. The way the ‘L’ is curved, the font and the colour of it used gives the impression that it’s girly even without the heart.

Their audience profile consists of girls aged between 16 – 30. An example of someone who fits in their audience profile would be Michelle Keegan who is aged 28, she is female. Her lifestyle is very elegant and glam at times. Her occupations are modelling for clothing lines and she is also an actress on national television. Lipsy’s socio-economic is formal which she fits into as she wears formal clothing styles.

In this case because Mrs Keegan has her own line with Lipsy, she tends to wear her own clothing from there but she also tends to wear other branded clothing which are similar to Lipsy, which can been seen on her social media page on Instagram.

For my chosen audience for my digital graphic, I have based it on women aged 18 – 30. The reason for this is because it’s a women’s fashion brand so I based it on them. For the design of my logo, I made it plain and simple with how it looks, such as just a word with no fancy swirls or any hearts. The layout is also very basic in how it looks and how it’s written. For the font I used ‘Minion Pro’. How the background colour that can be seen right now has nothing to do with it, it’s there just so that the shadow blur can be seen properly. This is similar to ‘Lipsy London’ by the font and how they’re spaced out in a way.

For my audience profile it would be someone actually like Michelle Keegan, someone who can take the clothes and make it their own. The age range is between 18 – 30. Their gender will obviously be female as it’s a female brand. It slyly doesn’t matter about their lifestyle, they could just be wearing the clothing for an outing but the main thing is that they’re wearing the clothes. Again for my audience profile it doesn’t really matter about their occupation as long as they can afford the clothes.

For the style of font, I used my what sort of clothing I would have, which was the classy, elegant side of females. However you may not see it in my font of writing that I have chosen. But what you can see is how tall and bold it is, which is what should come across to females.

Here my logo can be seen on two different forms of social media, Tumblr and Instagram. However it can still be seen on other sites such as Facebook and twitter as I don’t have them.

I am designing a logo for a clothing company called ‘Bellissimo’.  I want the logo of the company to be elegant as the meaning of the brand means ‘beautiful’. The reasoning behind the Italian name is because I want the clothing brand to be very feminine and I would also like it to be a powerful brand for women. The logo will be a print version as it is going onto clothing, which will be made in Photoshop. My audience is obviously women, as it is a clothing brand/product for them. The audience isn’t really aimed at a particular female type but it can apply to any as I want the brand to make them feel beautiful and elegant.

In the process of making my logo, I used an appropriate design and manipulated it using the adobe Photoshop software. In the workspace I used about two toolbar options to make the logo. The file information for the size of the image is 15cm – 15cm – 100 pixels/cm.

For floating palettes tools and features, I used only two different colours (black and white) and only two layers that were used. The size of my text is roughly 61.33pt, font used was minion pro, with regular and smooth features. I used the tools to obviously select my objects, clone tool was used because I had to duplicate my only layer. I used motion blur to blur the white layer of the word to give a sort of a shadow effect to it.

task one notes

Task one.

Raster:
-          Made up of parallel lines of a pattern to form an image or a display or television.

-          Electronics: horizontal scanning lines traced by an electron beam.

-           JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP, TIFF, PSD*

-          Coloured pixels

In use:
-          Nearly all the images on websites are raster images. They are typically digital

Basic file types:
-          .jpg (JPEG raster format), .gif (GIF transparent file), .png (Portable Network Graphic Transparent file), .tiff or .tif (Tag Interleave Format).

-          Adobe Photoshop: .psd

Vector:
-          uses points, lines, curves, and shapes or polygons
-          more flexibility
-          objects
-          individual objects
-          don’t lose quality when resized
-          .svg
-          Common formats: .cgm, .svg, .odg, .eps, .xml
-
Basic file types:
  • Adobe Illustrator: .ai, .ait, .art
  • Corel Draw: .cdr, .cdrw, .cdt
  • Corel: pat (Paint Shop Pro Pattern Image)
  • Digital Line Graph: .dlg, .do
  • OpenOffice: .odg
-          drw (vector file), .pif (vector image GDF format), .pct (Macintosh bitmap graphics format) , .ps (Adobe PostScript), .eps (Encapsulated PostScript), .svf (Simple Vector Format).
Pros and cons of vectors:
-          Vector images are scalable, so that the same image can be designed once and resized infinitely for any size application – from business card to billboard.
-          Vector images cannot display the natural qualities of photographs.
-          Vector images cannot as of this writing be used in electronic format – they must be converted to a raster first.
-          Vectors display at the highest resolution allowed by the output device, while rasters blur when blown up.

Vector-based applications:
·         Adobe illustrator is the industry leader in vector drawing applications.
·         CorelDraw is another popular vector drawing application.
·         Adobe Freehand is used for creating vector graphics.
·         Adobe Fireworks - see Bitmap graphics software applications section above.
Other vector drawing applications include:
·    Adobe Flash - see animation applications
·    KAI power tools
·    Jasc Web Draw
·    Logo Ease- web based software
·         The Flame project - Open source software used to create SVG files

Raster based-applications:
·
Raster images are primarily used with photos, which is why Photoshop is a raster editing program. Adobe Illustrator, on the other hand, is a vector drawing program that automatically creates your vector formulas as you draw.
·         raster images are resolution dependent.
·         When you change the size of a raster image, you shrink or stretch the pixels themselves which can result in a significant loss of clarity and very blurry image.
